The opening of its international campus, Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed), in Johor, Malaysia, in 2009 has made quality UK education more accessible to Malaysians as well as those around the region.

Bringing the best of Newcastle University to Malaysian shores, NUMed offers a Foundation in Biological and Biomedical Sciences programme alongside its acclaimed undergraduate degrees in medicine and biomedical sciences. All programmes offered at NUMed are identical to those offered at Newcastle University, UK, and lead to the award of the same qualifications, but at significantly reduced costs.

Foundation in Biological and Biomedical Sciences

SPM/IGCSE: 4A 1B including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and one other subject

English Requirements

You must be proficient in both spoken and written English. You can demonstrate this through the IELTS test, or equivalent (eg TOEFL, MUET, O level or 1119). An IELTS minimum overall score of 5.5 with no individual band less than 5 must be achieved.

About the Programme

The programme serves as a pre-undergraduate Foundation programme for Malaysian and International students intending to study medicine, biological or biomedical science or other related science programme at NUMed, or in another Malaysian higher education institution, depending on the final grades achieved.

Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

Entry Requirements

Students who have completed SPM, O-Level, or equivalent programmes must first complete a recognised pre-university qualification as a basic requirement for entry to an undergraduate degree at NUMed Malaysia. Whatever pre-university qualifications you offer, they should include the science subjects Biology, Chemistry, and Physics/Mathematics at a level equivalent to A-Level, International Baccalaureate Diploma or STPM.

A-Levels: Normally AAB at A2 Level.
IB Diploma: Normally 35 points including the additional points available for the Theory of Knowledge/Extended Essay.
STPM: Normally AAB based on the best three subjects including the required science subjects.
Matriculation: CGPA 4.00 including the required science subjects.
Australian Year 12: ATAR score of 90 including the required science subjects.
CPU, CIMP, Ontario Grade 12: 86%, based on the average of six best Grade 12 subjects,
including the required science subjects.
Foundation in Science (NUMed): CGPA of 3.50.
Foundation in Science (Other): A minimum CGPA of 3.75 for foundation
in science programmes of at least a 12-month duration from other colleges and universities will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY): Score of 85% and above.
Others: Applicants offering qualifications other than above should email us to check if their qualifications are acceptable or not.

About the Programme

The Medicine and Surgery MBBS Honours programme is a fully integrated five-year undergraduate medical course delivered at NUMed campus in Iskandar Puteri, Johor. Newcastle University’s Malaysia campus is part of the EduCity international higher education hub in the Iskandar Malaysia development corridor, with clinical studies centred in Hospital Sultan Ismail and other government hospitals and community clinics in and around Johor Bahru.

The course you will study is equivalent to the one delivered at our Medical School in the UK, and following successful completion of the programme, you will be awarded the degrees Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) by Newcastle University, UK.

English Requirements

You must be proficient in both spoken and written English. You can demonstrate this through the IELTS test or equivalent (e.g. TOEFL, MUET). An IELTS minimum overall score of 7 (or MUET 4), with no individual band less than 6.5, must be achieved.

BSc Biomedical Sciences

The course you will study is equivalent to the one delivered at our Medical School in the UK, and following successful completion of the programme you will be awarded the degree BSc (Honours) Biomedical Sciences by Newcastle University, UK.
